The shelter is designed for women and children who have suffered from domestic violence in Hong Kong. Inspired by the spiritual symbols known as “mandalas”, the space aims to provide a healing environment, while paying attention to privacy and security. Believing that mutual help and support are the best ways to help victims to get out of hard times and regain confidence, I intentionally created a lot of intimate and “get-away” spaces in this shelter. In addition, three small indoor gardens within the building are carefully planned to allow inhabitants to enjoy more sunlight and outdoor landscape without being too exposed.
