Projects with Special Focus – Co-Living

About Projects with Special Focus – Co-Living

The term “Co-living” usually refers to a place or space where people from different families live together. It is a new form of residence that encourages positive social interactions by way of a communal lifestyle with shared facilities and activities. In its inception, “Co-Living” was a solution to alleviate the need for housing due to poverty and the rising housing prices during the mid-20th Century. Gradually, the definition shifted to reflect a contemporary perspective and way of life.

A group of students from the Higher Diploma in Interior Design interpreted this modern phenomenon with new angles and mindsets; the solutions were presented in their graduation projects.

Li Nok Yiu interpreted co-living as a vehicle to publicize medical health awareness to the general public; Wong Ka Kei portrayed co-living as a self-discovery journey to enhance spiritual wellness; Kwong Chi Pun translated co-living as a medium to bridge tourists and authentic local Hong Kong culture.

Co-Living & Information Center
For Cancer Recovery Patients And General Public.
Cancer is a social and even global problem that cannot be neglected. Yet, Hongkongers seem to disregard this severe disease, Colorectal Cancer has been the highest case fatality rate among cancers for 5 consecutive years.

This project aims to design a leisure co-living space and information center with the characteristics of tranquillity and a sense of opulence to enhance the experience of using the five senses. Under such relatively relaxing and comfortable environment, it is hoped that the public can think and learn deeply about cancers, the cancer survivors can have a fascinating place to rehabilitate as well.

We all deserve me-time.
We all now are burning ourselves out from work, like a burning match. To stay competitive in one of the most stressful and fast-paced cities, Hong Kongers with multi-roles are tired not only physically but also mentally. We desire to take a well-deserved rest and seek inner peace, yet, with insufficient resources and individual space, our goal can be hardly achieved. Letting go of the worries and struggles, we all deserve me time.

This can gain people’s recognition towards local culture which can then be spread all over the world.
The design adopts a creative and attractive approach to enhance the popularity of Hong Kong local art. An atmosphere of surprise and appreciation will be created through the lyrics of the song “Below the Lion Rock”.
